This program is geared especially to meet the needs of
pre-kindergarten age
children who
may not yet be ready for our 3 or 4 year old program (due to age, toilet
skills, or
emotional
readiness). As
your child’s first introduction to Nursery School, it
encourages socialization
in a non-threatening environment and familiarizes
your child with a daily routine which includes both
structured time and time for creative play. Crafts,
music,
dance and other activities are oriented around themes such as upcoming
holidays, seasons and days of the week. In-class activities are
designed to develop small and large motor skills, eye/hand coordination, and
letter and number recognition. Teachers (one head teacher and two
assistant teachers) support and encourage the development of each individual
child’s toilet skills. Parents have the option of choosing a 2, 3, 4 or 5
day program in the morning, or 2 afternoons for their child, creating a
pre-school experience that can fit into your family’s already busy schedule.
This also leaves open the possibility of changing the number of days your
child attends (for example: after a few months of school, the parents of a
child who regularly attends on Tuesdays and Thursdays may decide to add
Fridays to their child’s program). The in-class curriculum will
consist of two or three “core learning activities” per week. Students
who attend more than two or three days are grouped together during this time
to engage in additional learning activities which complement and reinforce
that day’s theme. In addition to the in-class learning activities,
students have the opportunity to receive instruction by our music
specialist, Mrs. Stella, have “Jesus time” in the chapel, as well as
physical education, twice per
week.
